Style Tips for Men
Fashion and Style
- When pairing a dress shirt with a tie, select your shirt first. Use the dominant colors in the shirt to guide you to a tie with those accent colors in it.
- To appear taller and thinner, wear self-pinstriped dark colored pants. To really accentuate a broad upper body, pair the pants with a lighter colored shirt.
- Avoid cuffed trousers, long suit jackets, and loud patterns if you are a bit on the shorter side. Stick to pinstripes, other subtle stripes, and dark solid colors to add visual length.
- Keep the flashy designer labels under control. Style doesn’t always mean you have to strut your stuff with someone else’s name all over your chest, sleeve, or wherever.
- Nothing good can be said about wrinkly clothes. It takes a quick 10 minutes to use long, even strokes to get the crisp, clean look. Watch out not to let the iron burn your clothes!
- Match your socks to your outfit, preferably going with darker, dress socks. Only wear white socks during athletic endeavors!
- Never, ever (and we mean EVER!) wear socks with sandals!
- For a final touch to your dressing habits, finish yourself by using the same brand of after-shave, cologne, and eau de perfume. The combination makes the scent last even longer.
Grooming and Skin Care
- Keep all fingernails and toenails neatly trimmed and clean.
- Don’t hesitate to tweeze or trim away any of those stray eyebrow hairs. Even more can be said about those unsightly nose hairs. What you may be use to could often stand out to someone else.
- Give up smoking and re-establish your healthy glow. Bring some of that color back into your skin! Also watch out for second hand smoke, since it can affect your appearance as well.
- Moisturizers and sunscreens are just as important for men as they are for women. Develop a skin care routine if you have not done so already.
- That razor burn and ingrown hairs are not only painful, but it can stand out to others. Always shave in the same direction as the hair growth, and re-lather to shave somewhat against that direction for an even closer shave.
Hair Care
- Consider changing your facial hair in return for a different impression. Try going for a goatee or a soul patch. A neatly kept ‘2-day-scruff’ can also be very appealing.
- Why do you think so man women croon over Bruce Willis? Because he doesn’t fight his thinning hair. Resist the urge to hide behind it, and stick with a short cut or follow Bruce’s lead and shave it all off.
- Try not to let the premature shag look get a hold of you. Men need their hair trimmed more often than women do, approximately every 4 weeks. Don’t be late!
Misc.
- A quick workout won’t get you into fighting shape, but it can make a difference. Do some quick push ups, sit ups, and some arm curls. In the long run, small and quick workouts can build a little bit more muscle mass. In the short run, you’ll look more toned and have a bigger boost of confidence.
Style Tips for Women
Fashion and Style
- For a clean and slimming effect, stick to one solid color from head to toe. The dynamics of the shape will flatter your figure!
- Only choose larger prints for taller bodies. It can be over powering for smaller, more petite frames.
- Wear bright colors with sensibility. They can often bring a lot of attention to an area, so pick them for your most gratifying areas.
- Stilettos are back and in spite of the discomfort at times - they make your legs look like a million dollars!
- Know your "goods" from your "not-so-goods" and select clothing that compliments your "goods".
- Look in your closet and make a pile of items you haven’t worn in two years. Chances are, the pile is all out of style, does not fit anymore, and is wearing you down. Throw them away! This also frees up some room for new clothes.
- Recognize what you have felt the most confident while wearing it. Is it a v-neck top, or a sleek pair of dress pants? Use those previous feelings to your advantage and trust your instinct---it’s a natural feeling! Try experimenting with more colors and styles that you feel good in.
- Always read the care instructions before purchasing a piece of clothing. You don’t want to dread wearing something just for the sake of the dry cleaning bill.
Grooming and Skin Care
- Push yourself to drink eight glasses of water everyday. Not only does this keep your body healthy, but it also hydrates your skin!
- We’ve all had late nights, but all don’t have to look like we did! To reduce those bags underneath your eyes, place a few spoons in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Apply the back of the spoon to each eye, to reduce swelling. Take a couple of deep breaths, and relax.
- Try to avoid a steaming hot shower or bath. It can have an instantaneous drying affect on your skin and hair.
- After showering, always apply lotion to your entire body. This locks the moisture in to keep your skin smooth and hydrated.
Hair Care
- Skip the daily shampoo. Washing hair every day deprives hair of essential oils and tends to be dry out your scalp and hair. Stick to just rinsing your hair with water to remove any loose dirt and adds needed body. Opt for washing hair every two days for better control. If you have dry, coarse hair, be sure to condition ends every day.
- To get that sexy, "just off the beach" look, the secret is in sea salt spray. You can either make your own with sea salt and water, or invest in a bottle at your local stylist.
- Our hair tends to take a pounding with all of the styling products and appliances we use to get those beautiful locks. Steer clear of using a hair dryer and let it air dry. If you MUST use a dryer, keep it on the coolest setting and use a diffuser.
- Both the thick, heavy bangs and side-swept bangs are very hot. Just pass up the thin, wispy, all-one-length bangs. They have a tendency to give your face an unappealing square figure. A very hot look right now is thick bangs matched with long, wavy layers. Sexy----enough said.
- If you get your color touched up on a regular basis (about every 28 days) you may actually keep your hair from unnecessary damage. Not waiting too long means your stylist won’t have to dye your whole head due to color fading.
- A regular coloring touch-up (about every 28-30 days) may essentially be keeping your hair from avoidable damage. Your outgrowth will be minimal, and you won’t have to deal with color fading.
